Formula
Conversion rate = (Conversions ÷ Visitors) × 100
Worked example
45 conversions from 1,500 visitors is 3.0%. At a $250 average value, lifting that to 4.0% is worth $3,750 on identical traffic.
What's a good number?
Lead forms on a well-matched landing page commonly convert 5–15%. Ecommerce sits far lower, typically 1–3%. Native lead forms on Meta and Google convert much higher than a website, often 10–25%, because there is no page load and the fields are pre-filled — which is exactly why they are worth using when you do not have conversion tracking on your site.
Questions
- Should I optimise conversion rate or traffic?
- Conversion rate first, almost always. It is cheaper to double the rate than to double the traffic, and every improvement compounds against all future spend rather than only the traffic you buy next.
- Why is my landing page converting worse than my form?
- Every additional step loses people. A native lead form removes the page load, the navigation and the typing. If your site converts far worse, the gap is friction rather than interest.
